Today we completed our reading of the play so next week we begin to discuss OTHELLO within the context of tragedy and attempt to provide answers to some key questions:
- IS OTHELLO A TRAGIC HERO?
- CAN THE TRAGIC CONCEPT OF HAMARTIA BE APPLIED TO THE CHARACTER OF OTHELLO?
- TO WHAT EXTENT IS THIS A CONTEMPORARY PLAY?
- WHAT ARE THE KEY THEMES BEING EXPLORED BY SHAKEY?
- WHY IS IAGO SUCH A MAGNIFICENT WORK OF ART?
- HOW SHOULD THE AUDIENCE FEEL AT THE END OF THE PLAY? TO WHAT EXTENT HAVE THE AUDIENCE EXPERIENCED THE EMOTIONS OF 'PITY and FEAR' or 'PITY and TERROR' ?
- TO WHAT EXTENT DO YOU AGREE WITH THE CRITICAL OPINION OF A.C BRADLEY, F.R.LEAVIS or T.S.ELIOT?
- HOW CAN MILLER OR SHELLEY'S VIEW OF TRAGEDY BE APPLIED TO THE PLAY?
